Silk Road - 27 May 2009 - Eagle Hunting, Kyrgyzstan

a snThe Eagle hunting demonstration was held near the village of Seven Red Bulls. The female was 15 years old and the male 13. The female had won an international championship. She is a gold eagle (apparently there are many types of eagles). The man is the 6th generation hunter and has been breeding for 25 years. They let a rabbit go and the eagle swoops down and hovers over the rabbit. The trainer takes the rabbit and gives the eagle something else to eat. When he attempted to do the same with the male, the rabbit ran over to us. The eagle won’t attach where people are. They tried a second time, but the rabbit staid with the people. Finally they used a fox drag which eventually worked. We were offered the opportunity to be photographed holding the eagle. I declined. Eagle Demonstration

We stopped on the way back to the hotel to see some bee hives and also a family riding in a cart pulled by a horse.
