Silk Road - 26 May 2009 - Lake Issachul, Kyrgyzstan

We headed out towards where we would have out boat ride. We stopped at a reservoir which had the most beautiful blue water. We continued on to Lake Issachul which at 180 km by 65 km and 702 Meters deep is the second largest fresh water lake.

Apparently before the Soviets took over, there were no towns or village around the lake. One of the towns built by the Soviets was Balyklchy which was based upon fishing and tin mining. There are spas and hotels around the lake, where swimming is possible between June and October.

The Boat Ride on Lake Issacul was pleasant if cold. They gave us blankets which we definitely needed. The boat swung into shore to show us a cultural center with models of houses of worship of different religions including a model of a synagogue.
