We got a relatively late start this morning as we didn’t leave until about 10:00 AM. Our guide took us to Panfilov Park, which is Almati’s answer to Central Park. The first sight was the Holy Ascension Cathedral which was built in 1907. It is Russian Orthodox. It was designed by Andre Zinkoff. It is built of Spruce and there is not one nail in the building. The Highest tower is about 66 meters. It survived the 1913 earthquake and the communist rule by becoming a museum. It went back into use as a Church in 1995. Holy Ascension Cathedral
