Kaiteur Falls, Guyana – 28 April 2010

I awoke at 6:00 and checked my e-mail. I got dressed and had my purse ready to go. At 7:00 AM I got a call asking if I could make the 7:30 AM departure. Since that was what I wanted, I said yes and rushed downstairs for a light breakfast. I was on the deck ready to go by about 7:25. At the last minute, I thought to take Dramamine. We spent more time getting there than we actually spent there, but it was all worth it. We left the ship in a large bus WITH a police escort. When we arrived at the airport, We were weighed and when the agent saw my weight which included my purse, he looked at me. Next step was to go through security which was a man with a wand. I had forgotten to remove my Swiss Army knife from my purse, so it was given to the pilot to return to me when we arrived at Kaiteur Falls National Park. We flew there in a 12 passenger plane and the ride was a bit bumpy. I managed to keep my breakfast down. The plane ride was about an hour. Once we got there we went on a walk which was a loop. There were three places where we could actually view the falls, which are very impressive. After we finished our walk, we were given a snack, which I couldn’t finish and frankly didn’t want to since I knew the return flight was coming. We arrived back in Georgetown and we taken to a restaurant called the Sidewalk Café for lunch. The food was good. I had the trout, vegetables and rice. They served a juice mix which was very refreshing. I don’t know all that was in it, but it did have guava. After lunch we headed back to the ship. I looked over the bowls in the stall where I bought the two yesterday, but I elected not to buy. She had some nice large ones, but they had defects in the wood which was why she was selling them for $20.

After a short nap, I had tea and then stood on the deck as the ship pulled out. A shower and clothing change followed. I arrived in the cocktail lounge in time for some conversation before the recap. Unfortunately we hit mildly rough weather and I was sick as a dog. I made it back to my cabin without embarrassing myself, but I didn’t make it to dinner.
