Silk Road - 8 June 2009 - Lunch in Ashgabad, Turkmenistan

We had lunch in the business center which overlooked the city. According to our guide, the money being earned from oil and gas is supporting the building spree in Ashgabod. 85% of the population is Moslem, 10% Eastern or Russian Orthodox and 5% falls into the other category. The streets of the city are very clean. You see people sweeping the streets constantly.The White Buildings of Ashgabad

We saw the monument dedicated to the people who died in the 1948 earthquake. It is opposite the Arch of Neutrality. We went up via elevators. I took some pictures from the top.
