Our last sightseeing event of the day was the Mosque complex which included the Mausoleum of the first president and his family. The main mosque – Spiritual Mosque of Turkman Bashie – is capable of accommodating 20,000 people. The first floor for men has space for 13,000 men and the upper level has room for 7,000 women. It was built between 2002 and 2004 using mainly marble. It has 48 windows under the dome – This represents the 1948 earthquake. There are 7 doors leading into the building. In fact, four to five thousand people have come for Moslem holidays. There is a hugh eight pointed star carpet which was actually made in the mosque. It is the only mosque with non-arabic writing in the interior.

I tried to get access to the internet unsuccessfully. I have finally scheduled a time for tomorrow and hope for the best. We went out to dinner which wound up being lengthy, but extremely pleasant.
