Danube Trip - 31 August 2011

We landed at Frankfurt at about 11:15 am local time and it was a very good thing that Bette had requested transportation. It seemed like we had to go from one end to the other of a very large airport and after a night of fitful sleep, I was in no condition to do the hike; especially with my backpack. The plane took us to Budapest where we were met by Dushan, the tour director on board the ship. We and our luggage were loaded onto a bus. We were then taken on a short tour of the Pest side of the city. We stopped at Hero Square. The seven horseman at the base represent the seven Magyar tribes that settled the area. We got back on the bus and drove around the Pest side of the city. I was disappointed because I really couldn’t get any pictures of the rather ornate buildings that fill and beautify this city.

We were dropped off at the ship. Bette and I signed up for the three optional tours. After being introduced to the entire crew, we had dinner. We had to say what we wanted for dinner tomorrow night, which may be a hassle. This one wasn’t for me because the choice was between fish and pork.

Bette and I were so busy talking with our dinner companions that we almost missed to the bus to the “Hungarian State Folklore Ensemble. This was really good. There was about two hours of really energetic, athletic dancing, which I thoroughly enjoyed although I did have some trouble keeping awake. After the show, we were treated to a short night tour of Budapest. We were taken up to the Citadel where there was a panoramic view of Budapest. I tried to take a video clip, but I messed up the setting.
